Beyond Full Automation: When AI Needs a Human in the Loop

Wednesday 14th October 2026

About

Businesses are racing towards AI automation, but full automation is not always the most efficient, economical or reliable choice. This session shares practical lessons from deploying AI-assisted workflows across finance, sales, HR and business operations using RAG-enabled agents, Python, n8n and ERP integration.

Rather than asking only “what can we automate?”, the project increasingly asked a more important question: what should we automate? Some repetitive, high-volume activities benefited significantly from automation, while other tasks were faster, cheaper or more reliable when AI supported a human rather than replacing them.

The session explores how to decide between full automation, AI-assisted work and human execution, and how to measure success through cost, speed, quality and operational risk rather than automation percentage alone.

Key Takeaways:

  • How to decide whether a task should be automated, AI-assisted or human-led
  • Why maximum automation is not always the best operating model
  • How to compare AI and human execution using cost, speed, quality and risk
  • How to design effective human-in-the-loop workflows
