Keynote Spotlight: NASA – AI & Robotics in Lunar & Martian Exploration
We’re excited to announce that Dr. Jeevan Perera, Senior Engineer and Deputy Station Chief at NASA’s Johnson Space Center, will deliver a headline keynote at Data Decoded MCR 2025.
With more than 36 years at NASA, Dr. Perera has shaped many of the agency’s most important human spaceflight programs. He led the development of the International Space Station risk management system, a pioneering framework now applied across NASA, and has played key roles in engineering, leadership, and policy for the Space Shuttle, ISS, and Orion spacecraft. Beyond risk management, his expertise spans program planning, IT systems, cybersecurity, and even law—holding both a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and a Juris Doctor degree. His exceptional career has earned him the NASA Administrator’s Service Award and recognition from the FBI Director.
Session: AI & Robotics in Lunar & Martian Exploration
📅 Tuesday 21 October 2025
🕙 10:00 – 10:45
📍 Keynote Theatre: Leadership & Strategy
In this inspiring keynote, Dr. Perera will share how artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are transforming NASA’s Artemis and Mars missions.
From overcoming communication delays and resource constraints to ensuring crew safety, AI is redefining autonomy in space exploration. Robotics are extending human reach by scouting, sampling, constructing, and maintaining in the most extreme environments.
Drawing on decades of NASA experience—from early rovers like Sojourner through to Perseverance and Ingenuity—this session will also look ahead to the future of swarm robotics, self-repairing systems, AI-driven resource utilization, and smart habitats. Together, these advances will be critical for sustaining human presence on the Moon, Mars, and beyond.
